Sick Kiddos!

Both Kavya and Keerthna are sick with some kind of viral infection! It started with Kavya having a temperature of 101 on sat night. It didn't reduce even with crocin (paracetamol) poured down her throat every 4-5 hrs. Sunday i took her to a local hospital just to check her ears and throat for any infection, they confirmed that she does have throat infection but totally scared me by saying she has to be admitted and be given sponge bath to reduce her temperature. Its not good for her to take paracetamol every 4-5 hrs (WTH??) I told him (assistant doc) that I will check with my pedi and then get back. My pedi - who is out of town but was so helpful by allowing me to interrupt her vacation advised me to start her on an antibiotic right away for the infection and was a little concerned with the low hemoglobin (7.1) but did not see a reason for admission. so sunday was spent with me giving Kavya sponge bath and wet cloth on the forehead to reduce the temp.

Monday morning we went to see another pedi, who recommended another paracetamol - Neftol which broke Kavya's temperature and she was back to normal at 2pm. I am giving her anti-malarial just in case.

As if this drama was not enough.. Keerthu started running temperature last night. Took her to the pedi right away and started her on Neftol.

I am at work today physically but mentally with the kids!

Sibling Love

My sister paid us a flying visit with her kiddo Krishna early this week. Keerthu and Kavya loved playing with their baby brother. Keerthu not so much since it meant sharing her toys :-) But Kavya loved being the big sister and was so proud that they had come to visit 'her'!

After 3 failed attempts, we finally managed to get some great pictures of Kavya and Keerthna. The photographer did a great job in capturing these moments.. amidst Keerthna running away from the flash, Kavya running behind her, people queuing outside for passport pictures.. you get the idea.

Keerthna was endlessly posing, but Kavya had reached the end of her patience and just refused to cooperate. No amount of bribing worked!

Kavya and Keerthna Mundan

We had the Mundan (head shaving) ceremony for Kavya and Keerthna today. Keerthna because she turned 1 and its the traditional thing to do, Kavya 'cos it is believed that hair grows stronger after multiple head shaves. Kavya did great at the salon as usual, held her candy and gave 100% cooperation.

Keerthna was a total surprise, after Kavya's 1 year mundan experience I was prepared for the worst. But she was one cool customer, held a candy in her hand, said hi to the hair stylist and was DONE!

Keerthna was totally fascinated with Kavya's bald head..

Adjusted percentile for Keerthu

Keerthu got get 1yr chicken pox vax on Saturday and her height & weight got adjusted a bit. She weighs 8.25 kgs and measures 29 inches. She falls in the 30th percentile for weight and 5oth percentile for height. wohoo!!

All about Kavya!

Keerthu celebrates One!

Ayushahomam

We celebrated Keerthna turning one, this time in the traditional hindu fashion. A quick wikepedia on birth star is the constellation the Moon was in at the time of your birth. Nov 13th was the day Keerthu's birthstar 'Barani' completed 1 year. Here is a link for more inquistive minds on what is Ayusha Homam.

1 year and 3 year Appointments

On Nov 1st we went in for Keerthna's 1 year and Kavya's 3 year appointments. Keerthna was due for a chicken pox vax but she didnt get it due to non-availability(!) so its rescheduled for next week.

Here are her growth percentiles.

Weight: 8 kgs -> 17.6 Lbs (EXACTLY what Kavya weighed at 1 yr)
Height: 28 inches (Kavya was 29 inches)

15th percentile for weight from birth

Around 10th percentile for height

Kavya's numbers are
Weight: 11.5 kgs -> 26 lbs
Height: 37 inches

Kavya has dropped her percentile in weight from 2 years.

Sticking to a little above 15th percentile in height.

Diwali 2008!

First Diwlai for the kids and diwali celebration for us after a decade.. The diwali morning was an anti-climax as not much activity in the morning. But Diwali night totally made up for it. Fantastic crackers.. Kavya had a blast!
